How hot was Avalanche goaltender Philipp Grubauer during the month of March? Historically hot.

Grubauer finished w/ .955 save percentage this month, highest ever by @Avalanche / Nordiques goalie in March. He topped Patrick Roy’s .952 in March 2003. It was 2nd highest Sv% in ANY calendar month in franchise history (min 7 GP), trailing only Peter Budaj’s .957 in Dec. 2009

Playoff central on the Avalanche website.

From January 28, the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast featured great stories from former Avalanche defenseman Ray Bourque. Click here to stream from their website or search iTunes or Spotify for the show. Bourque’s segment begins at about 25:35.

Some of the cards we looked at. Stick around to find out what I’m talking about.

Ian Cole’s “fight” with Tom Wilson didn’t go well on February 7. Cole missed the next 11 games with a broken orbital bone. Ouch.

James and Jay discuss the play on March 7th in Dallas that injured Gabriel Landeskog in this show.

Congratulations to Semyon Varlamov who was named the NHL’s number one star for the week ending on February 24th.

Mikko Rantanen made some Avs history as he scored his 30th goal of the season on March 9.

1995-96 is the only other @Avalanche team to feature three different 30-goal scorers. The 1998-99 #Avs had three 30-goal scorers on the roster but that included Theo Fleury, who had 40 goals but 10 with Colorado.#GoAvsGo https://t.co/1mk9cVSnEm

Just after we recorded this show the Avalanche announced why us Avalanche fans are unable to acquire nice things.  Varly’s out for the season and Erik Johnson out for six weeks.

We’re pretty sure emergency back up goaltender Scott Foster woke up on March 29 not fully expecting to be the first star of the Blackhawks/Jets game that night, but that’s exactly what happened.  What a cool story.

In this podcast, James and Jay discuss where the Avalanche were as opposed to where they are now, recent injuries and their long-term impact, and who the real starting goaltender for the team is.  Side Note: Hot (borderline scorching) takes are included for FREE in this show.  Those topics and much more Avs and hockey stuff in episode #111 of The Avs Hockey Podcast.  Thanks for the download, Team AHP!

February 8: Brayden Schenn asked Gabriel Landeskog to dance prior to the opening face off in St. Louis so they did what hockey players do and they danced.

Starting(?) goaltender Jonathan Bernier was named the NHL’s third star for the month of January.  It was a great stretch of play for him and the team.  A well deserved honor.

Nathan MacKinnon scored the first goal of the All-Star game.  That was fun.

The accolades keep coming for Nathan MacKinnon this season.  He was named the NHL’s first star for the week ending on January 21.
