In this show James “Tapeleg” Gralian, from “The Rink Podcast”, and I break down the eight games since our last podcast.  We also talk about the big pile of injuries that is your 2010-2011 Colorado Avalanche, we describe the night when the Avs played a little game of “Who’d like to play some goaltender tonight?”, and we also discuss yet one more comeback for everyone’s favorite Swedish-born Avalanche legend.  These topics and much more Avalanche stuff coming up in episode number 58 of The Avs Hockey Podcast.  Thanks again for joining us Avalanche fans!

***We discuss Scott Parker and his brief stint of wearing number 29 with the 2006-2007 Avalanche in this show.  I have one of his game worn jerseys from that season in my collection and have written about it in a previous blog post.  For the post and the story behind this jersey please click here.

4th Annual Avs Blogger Roundtable, Part 3

The third and final day of the Avs Blogger Roundtable is here.  My responses to the questions below are included in this podcast.

  • Who among the following will score the most points next year: T.J. Galiardi, David Jones, Ryan O’Reilly, Ryan Stoa, Brandon Yip?  Responses from the other bloggers are here.
  • Last year, a number of young Avalanche players had breakout years. Which Avalanche player or prospect do you think is most ready to have a big year in the NHL?  Other responses here.
  • The Avs’ only notable acquisition this summer is Daniel Winnik and several  veterans were allowed to walk as GM Greg Sherman focuses on letting the young players develop. Will this team be better or worse than the last year’s  8th place team?  Other responses here.

So that’s it for this year’s blogger roundtable.  Special thanks to David and the crew from MHH for having me be a part of this again.  It has been cool to watch this grow over the years.

Thanks for the listen and the visit and most importantly, Let’s Go Avs!  Have a great season Avalanche fans.

The Avs Hockey Podcast, Episode #56

In this show, my co-host, James “Tapeleg” Gralian from “The Rink Podcast,” and I break down the summer that was for the Colorado Avalanche.  We talk about who’s back, who’s gone, and who’s new on the roster, we voice our concern over Peter Mueller’s head, we decide what should be done about former Avs head coach Marc Crawford, and we talk about almost everything else in between concerning the 2010-2011 Colorado Avalanche team.  Those topics and much, much more in episode number 56 of The Avs Hockey Podcast.  Thanks for the listen Avalanche fans.  Ladies and gentleman, it’s Avalanche season!

4th Annual Avs Blogger Roundtable, Part 2

My responses to The Avs Blogger Roundtable rolls on with day two.

Today’s questions, as answered within my podcast above include:

  • No goalie faced more shots last year than Craig Anderson  and the Avalanche have lost perennial shot blocker Brett Clark (who ranked 11th in blocks last year despite missing 18 games). With the six other core defensemen all returning and no veteran acquisitions to augment the squad, can the Avs tighten things up defensively this year?  Other Avs blogger responses to this question are here.
  • The last time an Avalanche defenseman scored 40 points in the regular season was the 2006-2007, when John-Michael Liles scored 44. Who do you think will be the next Avalanche blueliner to hit that mark?  Responses from other Avs bloggers are here.
  • Joe Sakic scored 62 points as a 19-year-old rookie with the Nordiques and then improved to 102-points his sophomore year. 19-year-old Matt Duchene scored 55 points last year. What kind of point total can we expect from Duchene next year?  Responses from the Avalanche bloggers are here.

Be sure to visit the Mile High Hockey Avs blog to read the responses to these same questions by other Avs bloggers.  I’ll be linking responses as they are posted on MHH as well, so check back often if you don’t follow their blog already.  Thanks for the listen Avs fans!

4th Annual Avs Blogger Roundtable, Part 1

It’s almost Avalanche season, so it’s also time for the 4th Annual Avalanche Blogger Roundtable.  Details about what this is all about is on the Mile High Hockey Blog right here.  Thanks to David and the crew from MHH for having me be a part of this again this season.

In this show I’ll cover day one of the questions, which include:

  • Over the last two seasons, the Avalanche rank 27th in total attendance, averaging 14,688 fans or about 82% of Pepsi Center capacity.  It seems like we’re light years away from the 487-game sellout streak that ran from 1995 to 2006. What, in your opinion, is the biggest cause behind this drop in attendance?  Here are the responses from the bloggers on MHH’s site.
  • The Avalanche had 61 major penalties last year which is the most by any Avalanche team since the 1998-1999 club that featured Jeff Odgers, Warren Rychel, Adam Deadmarsh, Wade Belak and Scott Parker and only six teams had more majors last season. We know about the speed and skill that this young team possesses…do we give the toughness enough credit?  Here is a link to the responses from the bloggers on MHH’s site.
  • Craig Anderson started a franchise record 71 regular season games for the Avalanche last season. Does Anderson need to have a similar workload this year in order for the Avs to make the playoffs again?  Responses from all of the other Avs bloggers is here.

Day two coming will be coming at you soon.  There’s a lot of great insight within these posts by a passionate group of Avs fans.  Check out as much as you can.  You’ll be happy you did.
